Basque-speaking smart speaker based on Mycroft AI Short Name: Smart euSpeaker Name: Basque-speaking smart speaker based on Mycroft AI Coordinator: Igor Leturia, Elhuyar Fundazioa Project Runtime: August 2020 – July 2021 Funded by: European Language Grid The speech-driven virtual assistant devices known as smart speakers, such as Amazon Echo and Google Home, are being increasingly used, but these commercial products come in just over a handful of languages: not all official languages of the EU, let alone minority languages, are present in them. The Smart euSpeaker project aims to develop an open source smart speaker that works in Basque language, making use of Elhuyar’s Basque speech synthesis and recognition technology. It will be open source, as it will be based on the also open source Mycroft voice assistant (https://mycroft.ai/).
